Frequently Asked Questions
How exactly does oil cleansing work?
There’s no need to remove your makeup before oil-cleansing! Simply Start with a dry face. Makeup and all. Using a nickel-sized amount of oil, massage your face using circular motions for about a minute. To remove, you will first “steam” your face by placing a warm washcloth over your face until it cools. Then, gently wipe all the dirt, oil, and makeup away, wiping upwards. Rinse the washcloth. Repeat the process until all the oil is removed. You can now enjoy your radiant, clean and hydrated skin!
I have extremely oily and acne-prone skin. Will oil cleansing work for me?
Oil Cleansing is wonderful for all skin types, including sensitive, dry, oily, and acne-prone skin. Unlike conventional cleansers, that use harsh chemicals, the oil-cleansing method uses oil to dissolve and trap skin’s oil and simply rinses it away. Many people find that oil-cleansing their face at night and simply rinsing their face with warm water in the morning works best for them.
How long will it take for me to notice a difference in my skin after starting oil-cleansing?
Many people notice that their skin clears up right away once they switch to the oil-cleansing method. Some people go through an adjustment period with their skin. It may take a week or two for your skin to adjust to having adequate oil and not being stripped of its own oil several times a day. After that initial adjustment period, you should notice your skin looking much better than it did before. If, after several weeks your skin has become more oily or too dry then you may need to switch formulas. Some people believe that they have oily skin when in reality they have normal or dry skin. When we over-dry our skin it can appear oily even if it is not.
Which oil-cleanser should I use? I’m not sure which skin type I have.
Some people know that they definitely have dry, normal/combination, or oily skin. If you are unsure which type of skin you have, we recommend starting with the Normal Skin formula. Many people believe that they have oily skin when in reality they have normal or dry skin. When we over-dry our skin it can appear oily even if it is not.
Where do your ingredients come from?
We source all of our ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs. We feel very strongly that they are the best source of ingredients out there. Mountain Rose Herbs is a certified organic processor through Oregon Tilth Certified Organic, which is fully accredited with the USDA National Organic Program. They are also a certified Fair Trade business.
Are all of the ingredients you use organic?
We strive to use the best ingredients all the time. To us, that means natural and organic. All of the ingredients that we use are 100% natural. All of the butters and oils that we use are certified organic. The magnesium flakes are sourced from Ancient Minerals, a trusted high quality brand. The tallow is sourced from local grass fed cows.
Is it safe to use your products on children?
The magnesium butter and tallow balm are safe to use on all ages as long as their is not a contraindication for magnesium. There are no essential oils so that you can use them on the very smallest members of your family. We do not recommend using the oil cleansers on young children as the essential oil dilution is not tailored to that age. However it is a great product for preteens and teens.
Where and when should I use my magnesium butter?
You can apply magnesium butter all over, just avoiding sensitive areas such as the face. It is great for pregnant bellies especially. Our son likes us to apply it to his feet and back. We have incorporated the mag butter into our nighttime routine but I also use it during the day if I have dry skin.
